Continuing their 40th anniversary celebrations, Pixies announce previously unreleased songs dating from 1987 to 1991 as part of remasters of their albums Bossanova and Trompe le Monde being released on 11th September. In addition to being available on CD, digital and standard black vinyl formats, two special limited-edition vinyl pressings exclusive to Dinkedâs newly launched Dinked International Editions will contain four unearthed songs â âDig For Fire (Albini Version)â, âGo Man Goâ, âBrackish Boyâ, and âPunk Loopâ.Â
Dinked's new expansion as "Dinked International Editions," is in partnership with 50 stores in the UK, Ireland and the USA. Their exclusive Bossanova oxblood vinyl package will include a 16-page, 10â replica of the original UK booklet (featuring incorrect tracklisting) and a 7â of the songs âDig For Fire (Albini Version) and âGo Man Goâ. Trompe le Monde will be available on sky blue vinyl and include a 7â with the songs âBrackish Boyâ and âPunk Loopâ.
Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde were both remastered by Kevin Vanbergen who has been working through the bandâs tape archive to create new Dolby Atmos mixes as well as high-res masters of the bandâs catalogue, including both their Live at The BBC and Complete B-Sides compilations (the latter due out on 26th June).
Side A of the Bossanova 7â is a Steve Albini recording of âDig For Fireâ thatâs sure to excite both fans and music historians. Recorded in late 1987 and during the sessions for Surfer Rosa, Steveâs version is very different to the single they released almost 3 years later, which famously incorporated "sample-type soundsâ on a Pixies record for the first time. A coarser sound, as you would expect from Steve Albini, this version highlights just how far ahead of the rest they were at the time. A real treat.
Side B is âGo Man Goâ, a once near-mythical Black Francis and Kim Deal co-write that curiously was recorded by both Pixies and The Breeders during the album sessions for Bossanova and Last Splash respectively but failed to make the cut for either. Outside of appearing on a bootleg tape of Breeders demos and them airing it a few times live at the time, it faded from view until 2023 when upon discovering the lost master for it, The Breeders included it on their 30th anniversary reissue of Last Splash. Similarly, whilst working on remixing the Pixies catalogue in Dolby Atmos, Kevin Vanbergen stumbled on a recording of it in the Bossanova session tapes so with a light touch, worked on mixing it so to complete it over 35 years on.
